One of the biggest selling points of vaping has always been the fact that it tastes better than smoking, which means that you’re going to be pretty unhappy if you sit down for a bit of relaxation only to find that your vape tastes bad.
Why doesn’t your vape taste right? If you’re new to vaping, this is the guide for you. We’re going to walk you through the most common reasons for a bad-tasting vape and explain exactly how to fix them.
Your Vape Is Empty
Let’s start with the basics. When you hit your vape, does it taste so hot and foul that you can’t even inhale the vapor? In this case, it’s very likely that your device is out of e-liquid.
- Are you using a vape with a refillable tank or pod? You can find out how much e-liquid is left just by looking at your device. If you’re using a pod system, you may need to remove the pod for a closer look. If you’re down to your last few drops, you need to add more vape juice. To ensure that your device always produces top-quality flavor, you should refill it before the e-liquid level gets too low.
- Are you using a disposable vape? With most disposable devices, you can’t observe the e-liquid supply directly and have to go by the way your vape tastes. If you get a harsh, burnt flavor on every puff, your device is almost definitely out of e-liquid. You’ll need to buy a new device in order to continue enjoying those delicious Geek Bar flavors.
You Need a New Coil or Pod
Are you using a refillable vape? If so, you need to maintain your device properly if you want it to deliver the best possible flavor – and that means you’ll need to replace the pod or coil about once a week. It’s time for a new pod or coil if your vape produces a flavor that tastes like burnt sugar.
- If your device uses a vape pod with a built-in coil, you can discard the entire pod and replace it with a new one.
- If your device uses a vape pod or tank with a removable coil, you’ll keep the pod and replace just the coil. If you have a pod system, you can remove the coil by pulling it out of the bottom of the pod. If your device has a tank, you’ll need to unscrew the tank to open it and access the coil.
Regardless of what type of vape you’re using, it’s important to ensure that the coil is completely saturated with e-liquid before you get back to vaping. Fill your vape and let it stand for at least five minutes before taking the first puff.
Your Vape’s Power Level Is Too High
Adjustable power has always been the key feature of vape mods and other high-end devices – but these days, you can even adjust the power on disposable vapes in many cases. The fact that your vape can produce enormous clouds, though, doesn’t necessarily mean that’s what’s right for you. If the vapor is so overwhelming that you find it difficult to inhale, you probably need to turn the power down.
- If you’re using a disposable vape with adjustable power, your device has a switch or button for making adjustments. Press the button or move the switch to lower the power. Your device most likely has a display that tells you which mode is currently active.
- If you’re using a vape pen with a single button, clicking the button a certain number of times will adjust the power. In most cases, it’s three clicks. The device’s light should flash in response, and the color of the light indicates the device’s power level.
- If you’re using a vape mod, your device has dedicated “+” and “-“ buttons for adjusting the power. Click the “-“ button several times to reduce the power by a few watts and try vaping again.
Your Nicotine Strength Is Too High
Vape juices are available in nicotine strengths that typically start at 3 mg/ml and can be as high as 20 mg/ml or 50 mg/ml depending on where you live. A vape device is designed to work best within a specific range of nicotine strengths, and you need to be sure that you’re in the right range for your vape. Once you’re within that range, you can adjust the strength to suit your personal requirements. If you feel jittery when you vape or find the vapor difficult to inhale because of an unpleasant sensation in your throat, you’re probably inhaling too much nicotine.
- Large devices like vape mods produce big vapor clouds and are designed to work best with low nicotine strengths. If you’re using a large vape, your device will probably work best with a strength of 3 mg/ml. If you’re not satisfied, consider increasing the strength to 6 mg/ml.
- Small devices like pod systems produce smaller vapor clouds and are designed to work best with high nicotine strengths. With a small vape, it’s usually best to start with the highest nicotine strength available in your region and stop down to a lower strength if you find the experience overwhelming or unpleasant.
Remember that nicotine does have a flavor of its own. It tastes a bit peppery, so it can affect the flavor of your vape. If you find that your vape tastes bad because the nicotine covers the flavor of your e-liquid, you should consider switching to a lower strength.
You Don’t Like the Flavor of Your E-Liquid
The last reason why your vape might taste bad to you is one that’s purely subjective – it’s possible that you simply don’t like the taste of the e-liquid you’re using. There are hundreds of different flavors on the market today, and not all of them are going to work for you. If the flavor that you’re currently using happens to be your first, don’t be discouraged because there are lots of flavors out there. Keep experimenting until you find the one that’s perfect for you.
