Laser printers like this mono laser printer have been part of our homes and workplaces for years. These devices are constantly evolving and changing to meet the needs of their users. But where does laser printing come from? What are its main features?
When did laser printers appear?
Its history dates back to the 1970s. At that time, its revolutionary ideologist Gary Starkwather had to work clandestinely on his project. Although he had no support from his superiors, the idea of revolutionizing the world of printing led him to continue with his dream. It was in 1977 when the first laser printer went on sale. Although Starkwather worked on this idea, he really inherited the observations made by Chester Carlson on the physical phenomena of matter, known as electrostatics and photoelectricity, already in the second decade of the twentieth century. Thus, thanks to these two people, what we now call laser printing was born; although, of course, with many improvements since then.
What are the characteristics of a laser printer?
The laser printer is, therefore, an electromagnetic device that receives digital information either from a computer, hard drive, USB, or scanner. There is no doubt that these devices will continue to evolve to provide a higher level of quality and a focus on connectivity between users and devices. Do you know what their main advantages are?
Resolution capacity. The resolution of prints made with a laser printer usually varies between 300 dpi (dots per inch) and 2400 dpi, although there are some models that can have even higher resolutions. Laser printers do the job with impeccable precision. If you want to forget about smudges and stains on your prints, this type of printer is the perfect option.
Printing speed. One of the main characteristics (and advantages) of laser printers is the high speed at which they can print. Some of them can print up to 27 pages per minute in monochrome prints and up to 12 pages per minute in color.
Cost per print. The price of toners is usually higher than that of ink cartridges, but believe us when we tell you that, in the long term, they can be much more profitable. The reason? The number of pages that can be printed is very high and the cost per print of each one is greatly reduced. In addition, if you opt for compatible toners, you can save up to 60% compared to buying the originals.
Power consumption. The power consumption of laser printers is quite high, even when they are turned off. This is a factor that you must take into account if you are thinking of purchasing a laser printer.
Price. The price of laser printers is, as a general rule, higher than that of inkjet printers.
Noise level. If there is one thing that makes laser printers stand out, it is that they are much quieter than other equipment. If this is a fundamental factor for you, laser printers are the best option you will find on the market.
Maintenance. Laser printers require very simple maintenance. You will only have to clean them regularly to prevent dust from entering the interior of the device. Forget about cleaning the ink heads and liquid ink drying out or spilling, with a laser printer you will not have those problems!
Photographic quality. Laser printers are not the best option if you are going to print photographs, as they are not usually designed for photographic printing. If this is your case, our recommendation is that you opt for another type of printer.
So do you think this type of printer is worth it? If you ask us then the answer is YES!
