How Can You Use the Internet to Go Green?

We live in times where it is necessary to go sustainable and green because our irresponsible practices have led us to climate catastrophes such as Climate Change and Global Warming. However, did you know that if you alter your internet usage more productively, then you can achieve your goal of becoming more sustainable and playing your part in protecting the environment?

The first thing that you can do is research what sustainability is and how you can practice it from the comfort of your house. For that, you would need an internet connection that could help you research as extensively as you want. For that matter, all you need to do is to ring up the Spectrum Sales Number and you can conveniently get yourself a reliable and fast internet connection.

However, we also have some suggestions for you if you wish to use the internet more sustainably. Keep reading to find out how you can use the internet so that you can become sustainable at an individual level:

  1. Lower the Amount of Data that You are Using

The best way to put this theory into practice is by reducing the quality at which you are watching videos. We all love to watch a video at 4K resolution, but not all phones are capable of running videos in high resolution. Yes, your TV might be able to do that but it is highly unlikely to do on your phone.

The smartest decision would be to lower the resolution at which you are watching videos, so that they are optimized at the resolution that your phone can support and so that you are using less data along the way as well. It should be enough that you change the resolution to 1080p on your phone, which is crisp and is probably the most that your phone can support.

  1. Delete Old Media From Your Cloud Storage

When we say cloud storage, we mean online storage such as Google Photos, Google Drive, Dropbox, and iCloud. People usually tend to keep old photos and videos in these storages, which would also include unnecessary screenshots as well. It would only make sense that you delete all unnecessary pictures and videos from your Cloud storage since they would be using a lot of data and using a lot of data means using more energy.

Every time you open your cloud storage, all of these pictures and videos load up, which uses a lot of data and hence uses a lot of energy as well. The same goes for your old emails as well that you don’t need anymore. Be sure to delete your emails as you go.

  1. Try to Opt for Search Engines that are More Sustainable

Search Engines are usually used when you don’t know which website in specific you need to head to. You enter your query in the Search Engine and it narrows down your possibilities for you. However, you must use a Search Engine that is known to be sustainable so that you can go as green as possible.

These Search Engines include Ecosia, which uses most of its profits so that it could plant trees around the world. Another Search Engine is Ekoru which uses a fraction of its profits so that it can remove plastic pollution from parts of the world, play its part in reforestation, and rejuvenate oceans. You may also use OceanHero, which uses some of its profits so that it could actively prevent plastic pollution from occurring in Oceans.

  1. Use Websites that Actively Work for Sustainability

Did you know there are actually websites out there that work actively so that they could play their part in sustainability? These websites incorporate compressed images, reduce their animations, and have a dark theme so that they can reduce their data usage and become more sustainable.

There are also some websites to calculate Carbon Footprint and actively work to mitigate it. Be sure to look into every website’s About Us page so that you can see which of them is actually sustainable and which isn’t.

  1. Keep Your Screen Time Controlled

Not only do you have to reduce your data usage, but you also have to reduce the time you spend as you use your devices. Not only would this be beneficial in terms of data but it would also be great for your health as well. You would have fewer headaches and your eyesight could be as perfect as it could be since you wouldn’t have any strain on your eyes. New phones actually come with the option where you can set limits for your screen time so that you don’t go overboard and stay healthy and sustainable.

Phones such as the OnePlus give you a Work Mode and a Life Mode where you can’t access social apps while you are working and you can’t access your work apps in your Life Mode and can access everything else!

Wrapping Up

Unfortunately, we live at that point in time where it is imperative that we actually make our practices more sustainable so that we can save the environment; otherwise, we are done for since the damage to the planet could be irreversible. So it is better to be responsible and energy efficient right now for a greener future!
